There are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers when it comes to breastfeeding. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first three to six months, but continued breastfeeding until the age of one or two.
Breastfeeding can really be continued for as long as it feels 'right' for the mom and child. Many moms breastfeed their children until the age of three, four or five. However, breastfeeding becomes less frequent as the child ages.
What Diet Should You Follow While Breastfeeding?
First, set aside a few minutes a day. Talk about problems or challenges that might have come up during the day and discuss how you handled them. You can ask your child for his ideas on simple matters to help him build problem-solving skills. These skills can help him resist peer pressure to use alcohol and drugs to solve problems.
Decision making skills are important Children learn how to make decisions. You can guide them with a key set of questions to ask when faced with a choice: What am I trying to decide and what do I know about it? How do I know my information is accurate? Who gave me the information? What more do I need to know before going ahead? Who has the added information I need? Once the decision is made, ask these questions: What are the good effects of this decision? What are the bad effects? After this, you can ask your child to reconsider a decision and take responsibility for the consequences.
Witnessing violence on television or in video games really pales in comparison to witnessing violence in real life situations. Children who have been exposed to violence, such as neighborhood shootings, abusive parents, bullying at school, and so on, may develop signs of post-traumatic stress disorder, more commonly known as PTSD. PTSD leads to poor grades, difficulty concentrating, severe depression, and sometimes suicide if it is not managed with proper coping skills. Children who have witnessed real life violence are in serious danger mentally and emotionally.
Psychologists use a particular training method called “cognitive behavior therapy” to teach children skills to cope with violence. It is not as difficult as it sounds, and many psychologists are trained in the methods of cognitive behavior therapy. In fact, parents and teachers use these methods all the time without knowing it because there are sensible ways to raise children who cope with difficult situations.
It is absolutely necessary for children to have access to medical care. Because this is so serious there are government programs that help to subsidize this. You can get different levels of assistance according to how much money is coming into the house. It is either low cost or free.
If you are curious about the basic guidelines then looking at federal sites will get you that info. After you have a basic understanding of what is being offered, you can then check the site for getting to the state site. You have to go to the site where you live because things vary from state to state.
